WHATS YOUR HOMETOWN?
I am a native of Sunny San Diego (SouthEast to be specific)


WHEN DID YOU FIRST DISCOVER YOUR LOVE FOR MUSIC?
I have always loved music…but having a passion to express myself creatively through emceeing?...sixth grade I would say.

WHAT PROJECTS ARE CURRENTLY IN THE WORKS?
I am currently working on 4 different projects…Vintage Verses(VVS.1) is a project that D-Ski the Ill-Eagle from Chicago and I will have complete next week. He is a Producer/Emcee, so this will be our “Jaylib” of sorts…Me heading up 90% of the lyrics and D-Ski 100% of the production…Xtra Buttery
Another project I am currently working on is The Aweful Great Lp, which is a group project I have with Makeshift. Makeshift is a producer/emcee from San Diego who is exceptionally gifted as well, and currently has an Ep titled Hella Heavy in stores now and available online at Accesshiphop.com.
The other two projects are my Tacoshophilosophy albums. I have two versions…One is the SouthEast version, while the other is the PB(Pacific Beach) version…I might just release it as a double lp. The southeast version is solely produced by the Mayjor Pros. Production Team (Legynd Murphy,Shaad G), the PB version is being solely produced by Makeshift
Other than these projects, I have mixtapes to accompany each release, and I still write for various artist in different genres for my Mockinbyrd Projekk Music Publishing company….so I have my hands full.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FOR 2009?

You can definitely expect a shift in the paradigm as far as hip hop is concerned. Substance within the midst of slump production, and a view of San Diego and the World from a conquerors perspective. Mitchy laid the foundation as far as, business model, and creating that Diego aesthetic for the world to see..now it’s time for myself, Makeshift, Black Cotton,Chazzy Rocc and others to continue to push the envelope. There is so much talent here, but the outlets are close to none. We literally are gonna have to take over in ’09, so expect nothing but Greatness.

WHAT MESSEGE ARE YOU TRYING TO SEND WITH YOUR MUSIC?
I don’t have a message. What I do, from the writing process, in the booth, to how that is translated on wax and or on stage is a demonstration. The demonstration of what hip hop in its essence is. What the culture and it’s influence brings out of me is my own expression and contribution. It may or may not inspire someone. If it does inspire anyone in any capacity, my hope would be that it inspires them to be individuals. Live, love and enjoy your life, figure out who you are and make your mark on the world, so nobody can ever forget!

WHAT ARTIST DID YOU LOOK UP TO GROWNING UP?

Rakim…Stetsasonic…Black Moon, the whole BCC…EPMD…RUN DMC…Big Daddy Kane…X-Clan…Souls of Mischief, the whole Heiro Crew….Ice Cube….Gangstarr…Scarface….Public Enemy: too many, all those whose music resounded within my being…you cant forget cats like that…they made me love hip-hop and the spoken word. I just realized the “artist” was singular in this question..ha!

WHO CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF WORKING WITH IN THE INDUSTRY?
I would have to break it down in catagories like this…

Producers: Madlib…Hudson Mohawke…El-P….9th Wonder…Black Milk…Flying Lotus…
Diplo for sure

Emcees: Mos Def….Vast Aire….Pac Div & Blu (same song…would be killer)….Black Thought…Q Tip…Nas oh yes

IF YOU WHERE TO GO INTENATIONAL WHERE WOULD YOU WANT TO GO?
When I go international?.....umm. JAPAN…AFRICA…GERMANY…DUBAI (we getn’ Arab money!) HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE ELECTION? I think the Election of Barack Obama as President is monumental. Not because he is an African American, but because instead of FEAR being pumped into the minds of Americans about life’s Ills and imaginary terrorists… for a season, HOPE was promoted on a major scale, and actually accepted by people all over the world. With HOPE in the minds of millions, possibly billions of people at the same time in the Earth, anything is possible. That is a force and energy that is sure to change the world!

IF YOU CHANGE ANYTHING IN THE MUSIC NDUSTRY TODAY WHAT WOULD IT BE?
I wouldn’t change much about the industry….it’s wide open right now! I would like to change the minds of some people within the industry. It kinda irks me when a dude brags about havin’ “50 whips”….lol, not that I am jealous, but its like dude….you could have 50 trucks, boats, planes, to distribute your own product and really experience ownership on the level of WEA (Warner, Elecktra,Atlantic)….Artists and fake CEOs complain about getn’ jerk paperwork, but look at what you are doing…you can really takeover,but they don’t ,they get 50-100 mil on a distribution deal and go ape shhh…….so I would change those people in pivotal positions minds if anything….and I believe my Independent spirit will!
